Mardra & Reggie Thomas-Northwoods Adult Jazz Camp

mardra-kimMardra & Reggie return to the Northwoods adult jazz camp led by Kim Richmond and joining a host of many talented musicians. This is an educational and performance experience for adults of various ages and levels who are interested in learning more about jazz. It is presented at the beatiful Holiday Aces Resort, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. Holiday Acres Resort is situated on a beautiful wooded lakeside setting in Northern Wisconsin. May 17 to May 20, from Wednesday evening to Saturday night. Faculty Concert Wednesday Opening Night and Thursday-Saturday evening Concerts at 8pm each night which includes all participants with faculty. Aspiring students of jazz from college age to seniors are welcome. Non-students are welcome to attend the performances and enjoy the fine dining of the Holiday Acres Lodge.

Come be part of our biggest fundraising event of the year!The BCT All in the Family Gala-Friday April 28th. Dinner, cabaret show, live and silent auctions. Chef Jeremy presents a family picnic with a gourmet twist. Capon-stuffed roast suckling pig, summer sweet-potato salad and much, much more! Plus, a fun-filled musical cabaret starring Mardra Thomas, Hassie Davis, Janine Norman, Patrick Hedges, Clark Cruikshank and Music Director Colin Healy. St. Louis’s own contemporary funk and soul jazz group, Good 4 the Soul, with the help of special guest keyboardist Reggie Thomas, will pay tribute to the Founding Fathers of R&B/Soul/Funk/Jazz fusion that rose to prominence in the 1970s. Keyboardists Joe Sample of The Crusaders and George Duke made lasting impressions on the history of jazz and popular music throughout their career. Join Good 4 the Soul and Reggie Thomas as they celebrate those sounds at Jazz at the Bistro with the help of saxophonist Jason Swagler and vocalist Anita Jackson!

Clinic Synopsis:
The rhythm section players are the only members of the band to play constantly for almost the entire chart, improvising the accompaniment as the chart develops. This session will demonstrate the elements that allow section members to effectively groove together, dialogue with soloists and drive the band. A specific focus will be on the guitar/piano relationship, the bass/drum hookup and orchestration of sound.

He attended The University of North Texas (then named North Texas State University) where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Theory and studied trumpet with John Haynie.

Mardra and Reggie Thomas return to St. Louis for two nights celebrating the release of their new CD, Matters Of The Heart.
This music was designed to spark your memory and touch your heart. You’ll hear engaging new arrangements of Lovely Day, Going Out Of My Head, and Never Can Say Goodbye, to name a few. The CD and shows also feature original compositions Hello Again and a title track that are sure to become jazz favorites. 
Detroit-based guitarist Perry Hughes and drummer Montez Coleman are featured on the album and these shows, joined by saxophonist Jason Swagler and bassist Zeb Briskovich; with support vocalists Nicole Jonas, Olivia Neal, and Zelina Bott-Goins. The CD will be signed and sold the evening of these performances and is also available in St. Louis at Vintage Vinyl, CDBaby.com and Itunes. Hope to see you there.
