Friends of Studio5 will remember Reggie Thomas from his previous exciting performances on our stage. Click on the link above for a great example. An evening spent with this charming, masterful pianist is like a stroll through the history of jazz. Reggie has toured worldwide and performs regularly as the pianist for the legendary Count Basie Orchestra (imagine having THAT responsibility!). He swings sooo hard, and is joined here by two long-time musical partners, bassist Dennis Carroll, and drummer George Fludas. To make the evening even more special, Trio Nexus will invite the remarkable vocalist Mardra Thomas to join them. Mike Stratton of WLNZ radio said that Mardra “has the impeccable phrasing of Nancy Wilson, and also the sharp tang reminiscent of Eartha Kitt.” And if Reggie and Mardra seem familiar to you for some other reason, yes, they were among the group of extraordinary artists that performed with us weekly during COVID for our immersive, 1920s-themed online experience, Into the Mist. Remember that? Reggie and Mardra were the couple holding a rent party in Apartment 12C. So much of that time in our lives I would like to forget, but we truly look back on that specific experience – when we were able to continue creating art and sharing it with people isolated in their homes – with such fondness, and thank Reggie and Mardra for being part of it.
